The Louisville Rowing Club offers three introductory lessons in sculling (two-oared boats, rowed by one or two people) and sweep rowing (4- and 8-person teams with a coxswain, in which members row one oar each). The minimum age for lessons is 14, with permission from a parent or guardian, of course.

Due to weather conditions and demand, introductory lessons are offered only from June through August. Rowers who have completed the three introductory classes, however, row virtually year-round.

Softly the evening came.
The sun from the western horizon
Like a magician extended his golden wand o'er the landscape;
Twinkling vapors arose; and sky and water and forest
Seemed all on fire at the touch, and melted and mingled together.
Hanging between two skies, a cloud with edges of silver,
Floated the boat, with its dripping oars, on the motionless water.
